Budapest July 14...Schiele, Newton, city tour and lunch....

Spent the day with Marta and Garry Burke...and what a fine one it was! Started the morning driving along the Champs Elysee of Budapest...stately homes, among them that of Bela Bartok, elegant shops....among them bookstores to explore on the next visit.

Stopped at the Museum of Fine Arts where we saw exhibitions by Schiele....a favourite....and were introduced to the photography of Helmut Newton. Quite a number of Schiele,s drawings I had not seen before, in spite of having spent hours in the Leopold Museum, Vienna a few years ago. Helmut Newton,s work was too staged for me..but then, he was a primarily fashion photographer. Intriguing was, that the gallery in which his work was located was secured by double sliding glass security gates, activated by an attendant...the most sophisticated I have seen. No time for the permanent collection....Manet and Goya will have to wait for another trip....and there will be another trip!

Lunch was on the terrace at Marta and Garry,s villa....like a film set. Collections of paintings, glass, china.... And to top it all off....plenty of sunshine and whipping cream! Thank you to our wonderful hosts!
